A short poem for March by Susan Gately
[New City Magazine – March 2021, page 23]
What lessons you are teaching me Lord
One by one, whipped away
My strength, my capability – life as I knew it.
I thought my life was mine
Not realising it was all yours
That everything was gift
Every moment in your keeping.
Now I understand
Nothing is mine
But the now:
No future plans to make
Just Yes to you in bites of food
The pains and aches
And tiredness:
Yes to you
Accepting the life of an invalid
May be my lot,
My only good
Amen
